Well, I can't believe that we only have one more day of class. Please share how the format the class has been for you? Has there been the right amount of instruction and time to work on your project? Do you feel you have had enough time to develop your project. How did the Wed-Th-Fri-Mon-Tue format work for you? Would you suggest keeping this type of schedule? Any other comments.... Thanks - Joanne and Lisa
In the course of working on my project, I messed around with VoiceThread and the link below is my debut effort. It will be a part of my presentation, so if you don't like spoilers skip it. If not, check it out! http://voicethread.com/share/1249440
I think that for this type of class the format is wonderful. (I think it could be tough for anyone who has childcare issues - biting into 2 weeks??) But I've loved it. Time to reflect, gain my bearings, chew on things, and play with some of the things that we've learned so far. I think that the time you've given us to work on this project in class is great, and it's been so nice to have you both so accessible during the process. It's relaxed, productive, and as with all of the classes/workshops I've done with you - it's practical!! Thanks so much! :)mb
Before I started I wasn't sure about the break in between however the weekend was a great time for me to work on the project and reflect on all the learning. I think it worked well after all. I loved having reading and online discussion due before class. I think it really helped build background knowledge and focus. I feel good about the blend of instruction and work time. It has motivated me to learn even more.
I appreciate how we were not only introduced to new web 2.0 tools, but given an opportunity to explore the tools with a partner or two, share with our colleagues and engage in a conversation about its usefulness in our classrooms. As many of us have already expressed, many of the tools seemed cheesy at first glance, but were much more valuable after conversations.
I feel like this class has been valuable and I'm super-excited (I can't believe I'm saying this!) to get back to school to try this stuff out! :)
I spent quite a bit of time playing around with some of the web 2.0 tools over the weekend. The learning curve is steep! Once you get something figured out, it's not so bad... perhaps even addicting! I found myself ready to log off several times and then seeing something else I could make better! I am enjoying the presentations and am already starting to re-think my project plan. I'm seeing things that might work better than what I chose to use.
I am getting there - management has never been one of my strengths but I see edu2.0 being a tool I can use. So many of the ideas I saw are just awesome and I can't wait to incorporate them into my curriculum, but my need was for a management system - I'll transform everyone later.
I really like the w-Th-F-M-T format - for those of us who work on the weekends, not having to cram something in for the week and being rested is just liberating.
I loved the split class. I needed the weekend to explore want I had learned. I went home and reviewed everything so when I came on Monday I felt up to speed. I thought the amount of teaching time I received for the various tools was great. I really enjoyed the time allowed to work on the project. Even thought I have presented I still have many changes and adjustments I want to do on Tuesday. Thanks
I am very tired today. I do appreciate the format of the class - you gave us a lot of autonomy and choices. I wasn't able to focus on my project as much as I wanted, but it wasn't your fault, I was just trying to learn so much new technology!
I will definitely need more time to add details to my classroom management page - but I am confident it will help me organize and enhance student learning.
The W-TH-F-M-TU class format worked very well for me. Always so much to do having the weekend was great. I feel like the learning curve was so great, that class time was well used. Thanks-Jen
Having preteen children to worry about during the day, the split week was a bit tough--as Maribeth said, it bites into two weeks of schedules. It's certainly do-able, but harder to coordinate rides to camps etc. The weekend was a nice break however. I have enjoyed the structure of the class, especially the time to play with the new tools we've learned about. I've also enjoyed the diversity of the class. There are so many different perspectives--grade level, content area, teaching style---and I feel lucky to be able to tap into each of these perspectives. The learning for me has been much richer because of this variety.
Format for this class is GREAT! Right amount of instruction and time to work on your project.
Yes, I had enough time to develop my project because I had the weekend to reflect and think about how to get my ideas on paper. Yes,Wed-Th-Fri got me started and helped me believe I could do this. It felt like a small step, not a big leap. Returning on Mon and Tue seemed like a PERFECT way to end. It mentally helps you know you still have a lot of week left.
I suggest keeping the same schedule, time, and location as well as date. I couldn't have asked for a perfect class.
I know there is more to learn, so I'll be back for next year's class. THANK YOU for taking the time to help us grow as educators.
The split class schedule was great for me. Five full days in a row is too much of an overload. The mix of work time and small/large group lessons is just right for learners who can mostly stay on track and focused. The feel of this course is different than any others I've been in. Truly self-directed and collaborative learning.
I really liked the split-week format; it allowed me to wind down and reflect a bit on what we had learned. The pre-week assignments were quite helpful to bring into focus some of the important issues, questions, concerns out there and the raison d'etre of the Web 2.0 advancements. It also allowed me to see that if we focus on the standards of collaboration, cooperation, etc., we will be not just using technology willy-nilly, but rather in a focused and purposeful manner.
I really like the format of this class, especially the split-week format. It actually made sorting out childcare for my toddler easier (Cally is only in daycare two days a week and our childcare provider was flexible, so I only had to have my husband stay home with her one day). It also made it easier to sit in one place for five days. If those five days had all been in a row, I might have been getting pretty antsy by Thursday. I've learned so much in this class and appreciate the exposure to so many tools that are out there to use in my classroom (or have my students us). I like that there have been voluntary workshops and plenty of time to work on our projects. While overwhelmed by all the readings and homework on moodle upfront, I'm ending feeling satisfied to have learned a great deal.
Considering we have had long days and a lot of sitting, I feel as if you could not have structured it better. I have learned about all of the tools, etc. that I hoped would, and then some. I've had a fair amount of time to explore but because of my choice of project, I have much more to do on that. I need time to practice and play... I liked having the weekend in between, but I spent most of my mindless mowing time thinking about technology. I am kicking myself for not finding a way to get all of the assignments done on Moodle before this week, but I either had company or was far away from computers. Joanne and Lisa, is there anyway I could join the next class' moodle so I could respond to others, or should I just continue what I've started?
Having this kind of schedule was appealing to me because we had the weekend in between to decompress, absorb what was shared and I got to be with my kids in the middle. I felt that you were both very flexible to our needs and pacing and were available to me when I needed specific help, not to mention your patience. I haven't fine tuned(finished) my project plan to be submitted yet. I'm worried that I will not know how to do that on my own. There were times during the course that I had been frustrated about my lack of knowledge and know-how, but I realize that I am out of my comfort zone and I am happy to be challenging myself in new ways!
I also liked the split week schedule. While childcare issues may occur another year, it worked out this time and, like Katy, I tend to get a bit frizzled as the week drags on. The weekend gave me time away, or time to play around without the feeling of a mounting time crunch. There was a solid amount of instruction in the first half to introduce us to a HUGE variety of tech. possibilities. I liked how the class transitioned to more optional workshops and ample personal work time. This was a great class and I look forward to taking the Level II section next year.
I did love having a weekend "breather" in there, especially since my son and his "friend" arrived on Thursday night from Japan. For anyone who wishes to be in a different session from me next year, I offer you a free day of childcare or assistance as I can see where that would be problem with the course in 2 parts. Since I am undoubtedly a long way from being a grandmother, I would be happy to do this as you have helped me more than you know.
I do hope that this is offered again next year. It saves me so much time not having to learn everything on my own, plus I would not have learned this much on my own either. Hope to see you all in next year's course!

I think having the weekend was great.
ReplyDeleteI also think the amount of instruction and time to work has been great.
I am excited about Web 2.0 tools.
I am thinking about using a tool to connect to the JES community.
Not sure yet.

ReplyDeleteAfter class last night we got a class that my mother-in-law was taken to Rutland hospital by Rescue so we drove to Rutland and back last night.
