Somehow I haven't been able to post a comment -- it keeps telling me that it couldn't complete the request. Anyway, so here is my comment as a post... I've been thinking a lot about fair use/copyright issues, and have done some reading over the weekend to clarify things for myself. One of the cool lists I have found at the Center for Media Studies at Stanford contains lots of tools to help you with this question.

This was the scariest part of the class. I probably am guilty of multiple transgressions, but sometimes companies send me stuff unrequested. I have shown numerous movie clips to my students from the Futureschannel, but they have emailed them to me for some unknown reason, other than they have me in their address book.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I have undoubtedly allowed students to use material illegally - either without citing the source in their projects or using more than 30 seconds of musical pieces, etc. I definitely need to work on that.
Thanks for another excellent and informative session!
