Whew...... We have made it three days. Thank you for great discussions and being such amazing learners and soaking up some many of the new technologies and learning we have shared with you. Please respond and let us know if there is anything we haven't covered or heard us mention that you were hoping to get during class. Have a great weekend and relax and enjoy some time away from the technology. Share any other thoughts you may have about technology and your curriculum. Lisa & Joanne
I think I need the weekend to figure out what I still want to know.
I do think I want to spend some time thinking about how to organize and share school photos. Right now I use Iphoto and Imovie but I am not very organized and it takes more time than I would like it to take.
I am excited about using the Smartboard and want to figure out how to use in for professional development for my teachers.
I'm good with the amount of information and tech tools presented thus far. I actually think I am at a saturation point where if Lisa and Joyce presented any more tech tools I would not be able to assimilate!
The Powerpoint on Copyright was a bit overwhelming. It was helpful to hear about the "rules" and makes me think twice before I add images to my own Powerpoints, but makes me feel pretty constricted.
I'm looking forward to having some time to play around with moodle, save images on Elmo, and learn to make Powerpoints using Turning Point.
It's been a great week, I think, except that I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed by it all. I think it's essential that I'm here - and am really looking forward to teaming up with my colleagues to work with and through this material and come up with ways to enhance the students' learning experiences this year. Thanks for going over the SmartBoard and Mimio stuff - I'm looking forward getting access to a SmartBoard - and looking at this closer when the time comes! :) I know that it'll be a busy couple of days next week (I think that this 3 day/2 day format is great for this type of class), and I'm hoping to get some things up and going next week - web page, student blog & wiki, and have a smilebox made from me to my kids to send to them at the beginning of school. I also would like to set up (and understand) some parent communication options. Basically - lots to do. Just being here and connecting with friends is wonderful - it's feels like we'll continue to be a go-to kind of group as the year unfolds - great support system.... Go, team! Thanks! :)mb
I have enjoyed the overviews of so many new tools--well, new to me anyway! Now I am ready to really figure out how to use them and make them work in the classroom. I appreciate the time to play around with, and experiment. Right now that is the most useful thing for me. If we move ahead to more new stuff, I lose the other new stuff I just learned. I need to work with each program and become comfortable before I jam more new information in.
I loved the introduction to the SmartBoard! It is going to be more complicated than I thought, though. Part of my project plan was to use this with students. It is going to take some time to figure out how to set up the lesson I want to do, how to use it, and how to save it so that I can find it again... I wonder how I will accomplish everything. Copyright, as always, leaves me with as many questions as answers. Guess I'll just have to plan further ahead and get permissions!
I love the SmartBoard! I am continuing to think about different ways to use it with the groups I work with... Talk about motivation! The thought of one for our whole school is overwhelming though!
I'm feeling pretty guilty about things I've been doing and copyright laws... I kept thinking ignorance was bliss!
Thanks for early dismissal. I think the idea of a weekend in between was a great idea. This has been a REALLY good class but I'm tired of sitting!
I'm enjoying the time to get into Premier AT... Kids and teachers need to learn about this and use it. Stay tuned.
Like Michelle, I really need to play with what I have - no more stuff! For this digital native, having few good resources is better than a whole box full that distract me.
The challenge is to take one management system and really build in the tools I need for my presentation, and eventually my classes. I have now viewed and tried three different systems, so I'm definitely getting an education in what is available. EDU20.org is my favorite right now. The layout is simple and the tools are easy to use. I'll be recruiting guinea pigs on Monday to take a spin.
My main worry revolves around the availability of EDU20.org in the future. I don't mind paying for it, as long as it simplifies my life. Moodle would be more reliable and on the district website, but not simple. I'll take simple right now.
I need time and a plan now - remember, their is a whole lot more sail on my ship than rudder.
Great day! As we hear more and more possibilities for uses and connections in our classrooms I become more motivated to try things. I am looking forward to the weekend and the chance to practice using the tools even more as well as plan out my project. I think we can make our units more engaging and effective using these tools. I agree the SMARTBoard lesson was wonderful. There is so much you can do in the classroom with one of these. I am looking forward to the Digital Storytelling lesson next week.
Every time I take a new class, I get energized to get back into the classroom and put this new knowledge to good use. I can't wait to start my kids blogging about their reading, I really hope it will transform the literacy program in my room, and, hopefully, in our school. :)
I'm hearing that we need Digital Story Telling, Turning Point hands on with PowerPoint, and some Movie Making software. Organization tools as well. Did I miss anything? If not, you'll have time to work on your projects, a couple of shared sessions talking about tools we haven't looked at to just give you some ideas, and we'll do some small group work on each of the things mentioned above throughout the day. Please let us know what is important to YOU! Time just flies by much too fast and there are so many things to learn!
ALL IS GOOD! I just love this format especially the Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday for the first half.
I also appreciate Joanne and Lisa's style of teaching. Picking and choosing workshops. Giving time to be hands-on. Appreciate the freedom to set up my own project. I also liked the small group presentations.
EXCELLENT three days! I'm INTO this experience and found myself thinking, planning, and researching this weekend.
THANK YOU for making this experience practical and engaging!
The applications we saw and experimented with are very motivating, inspiring and offer great potential. My next concern is to connect things in some form which makes them "seamless". How do you avoid that "choppy" or disconnected sense of a lesson when you are trying to incorporate the different modes of a presentation or interactive pieces for students. Also, the Smartboard really has that awesome aura of magic. Can't get enough of that!
Ditto what Meg said -- cannot wait to get a Smartboard! INTEGRATION of technology more or less seamlessly is also a concern of mine. I like the format of the class and what we have been learning to DO!
I think I need the weekend to figure out what I still want to know.

I'm still interested in digital storytelling. Maybe there will be time for a small group to look at this topic.
ReplyDeleteSmartboard presentation was great.
ReplyDeleteAppreciated the info on copyright.
I think I am ready to detail my project with some really neat Web 2.0 applications.
I want to learn how to use Movie Maker (I think) or something can incorporate digital photos, smartboard, flip-camera, etc....
